چکیده

Idiopathic scoliosis (IS) is considered to be a multifactorial disease. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is an important proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokine. There is some controversy regarding whether IL-6 gene polymorphism (rs1800795 G/C) is associated with IS susceptibility. A systematic search in PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane CENTERAL database until the end of November, 2015 were carried out. Pooled ORs were performed for the allelic comparison (C vs. G) and genotypic comparisons of codominant (CC vs. GG and CG vs. GG), dominant (CC + CG vs. GG), and recessive (CC vs. CG + GG) genetic models. We calculated ORs and 95% CIs using random or fixed effects model. Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to evaluate the methodological quality, and Stata 11.0 was used to analyze data. The associations between IL-6 gene polymorphism and IS susceptibility were investigated. Five eligible case-control studies were included in our meta-analysis. All of the studies were of high methodological quality. There were a total of 2121 subjects, including 944 cases and 1177 controls, from Asia and Europe. The meta-analysis showed that no significant difference was detected in all genetic models (P > 0.05). However, the results of this meta-analysis should be interpreted with caution because of the heterogeneity among the studies, and additional high quality studies are still necessary to assist with this finding.

Role of the IL-6 Gene in the Etiopathogenesis of Idiopathic Scoliosis

Scoliotic human nuclei pulposi can respond to exogenous proinflammatory stimuli by secreting increased amounts of interleukin-6 (IL-6). The G/C polymorphism of the promoter region of IL-6 gene influences levels and functional activity of the IL-6 protein. We conducted a case-control study of eighty patients with idiopathic scoliosis (IS) and one hundred sixty healthy unrelated gender-matched co...

P-132: Analysis of Genetic Variation of Interleukin 1-α in Idiopathic Male Infertility

Background Despite enormous progress in the understanding of human reproductive physiology, the underlying cause of male infertility remains undefined in about 50.0% of cases, which are referred to as idiopathic infertility and already affects about 5.0-7.0% of the general male population. Interlukin- 1 is a regulator that plays an important role in maintaining a safe environment for testes and...

Association between IL-6 and MMP-3 gene polymorphisms and adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: a case-control study.

STUDY DESIGN Case-control study. OBJECTIVE As inflammation plays a key role in the etiology of intervertebral disc degeneration, we suggest a possible contribution of pro-inflammatory gene polymorphisms in the pathogenesis of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA The nucleus pulposus of scoliotic discs responds to exogenous stimuli by secreting interleukin-6 (IL-...

Polymorphism in interleukin-6 gene is associated with bone mineral density in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Low bone mass and osteopenia have been described in the axial and peripheral skeleton of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Recently, many studies have shown that gene polymorphism is related to osteoporosis. However, no studies have linked the association between IL6 gene polymorphism and bone mass in AIS. This study examined the association between bone mass and IL6 gene pol...

The Association between GNB3 Gene Polymorphism and Obesity: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

The association between Guanine Nucleotide Binding protein β protein polypeptide 3(GNB3) C825T polymorphism and obesity has recently been reported. However, the findings remain inconclusive. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to detect the relationship between GNB3 C825T polymorphism and obesity. Materials and Methods: Six electronic databases including Embase, Medlin...
